The Russian Defense Ministry on Saturday afternoon detailed the consequences of a Russian precision attack on the western Ukrainian city of Lvov on July 6. A large number of Polish and German mercenaries were killed in the attack with long-range sea-based missiles on the premises of the Academy of Ukrainian Ground Forces in Lvov, spokesman for the Russian military authority, Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov, said at his daily briefing .
Around 4,990 foreign fighters have been killed since the special operation began in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Another 4,910 mercenaries fled the combat zone and Ukraine. Konashenkov also stated that the Russian military will continue to target and kill foreign mercenaries in Ukraine.
The military authority had previously announced that Kiev was increasingly recruiting foreigners because of the difficulties in mobilizing the population and the large losses in its ranks. As a result, fighters would also be recruited with the help of the US secret service CIA in the USA, Canada, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.
After the start of the Russian special military operation, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky announced the creation of an international territorial defense legion to attract volunteers from abroad. According to an estimate by the New York Times, in the spring about 1,500 people belonged to it.
